Technology Components:
E-Merge was tasked to investigate a material handling system consisting of various conveyors, a PC based data acquisition system, RFID System, and a PLC system. This project was for the world famous American motorcycle manufacturer. The material handling system controls over head conveyors that have different types of racks suspended from them. Sheet metal components (e.g., tailpipes, footstands, handlebars, etc.) are mounted on these racks. These racks are then sent for chrome plating. Existing system had several problems in scheduling and tracking the racks through the system. E-Merge examined the processes, and came up with a series of recommendations, that not only quantified the problems, but also provided approaches to solve them.
